Fungkee – works on a 100% natural, biodegradable coating inspired by fungi. The goal: to replace harmful PFAS coatings with a sustainable alternative that can repel water, extend shelf life, and protect surfaces. Fashion and outdoor brands are already paying attention. Their ask: funding to support R&D and pilot projects.

FRAS – makes single-use food packaging truly compostable, using a seaweed-based coating on paper. No plastic, no microplastics. With millions of cups being thrown away every day, the potential is huge. Her ask: a co-founder with a business background, plus funding to complete R&D and obtain certifications.

SolPhyX – tackling the nitrogen crisis with an artificial, mushroom-shaped device that rapidly removes nitrates from soil and water—what normally takes weeks, it does in hours. Already in talks with farmers and researchers, the team is piloting their solution with both North Holland nitrogen directive and with the Wageningen University & Research. in two pilots toward a regenerative future. Their ask is very specific: farmers with water ways on their land who are interested in joining a pilot project.

Shellcrete – is transforming shellfish waste into building materials. Inspired by coral reefs, Shellcrete mimics natural structures while reducing emissions by over 100%. With prototypes already in hand, her ask is clear: support in setting up a pilot production line and securing industry certifications.

The jury praised the scale of the problems being tackled, and not only provided each participant individual feedback but also asked them the sharp questions — invaluable for helping them grow. As Guus put it: “From nitrogen in soil and water, to plastic packaging, to sustainable construction, we are impressed with the problems you are trying to solve. They are quite big, and that’s what we want to see.”
