Duration

6 weeks

In the BlueCity CIRCO Track Circular Beer Chain, we are working with chain partners to find circular and waste-reducing solutions that transcend the entire chain. In a changing market, for example, the question arises whether the current return and BNR system is still optimal. On top of that, diversification brings new waste streams, but how do we deal with them?

Beer is a natural product that depends on clean water, brewing barley, hops and yeast, and thus closely linked to a healthy agricultural sector. Sustainability has therefore long been a core value in the beer industry. However, ensuring the availability and quality of these raw materials requires careful considerations regarding water management, renewable energy, transportation and resource use.

Although the brewing and production process accounts for only about 13% of beer brewers' total CO2 emissions, the greatest opportunities for circular gains lie in agriculture, packaging and transportation. These issues affect not only the beer brewers themselves, but the entire chain. Therefore, collaboration within the chain is essential to develop solutions that contribute to the overall circularity goals.

In addition, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) brings significant changes to the beer industry. By proactively complying with these new reporting requirements, breweries can not only meet their legal obligations, but also strengthen their brand by demonstrating transparency and responsibility in sustainability.

What is unique about a BlueCIty CIRCO Track is that it explores with all parties involved in the chain, from producer to buyer, how we can make the beer sector circular, which is also applicable on a large scale. Together we look for circular and waste-reducing solutions.

For whom?

  • Producers/suppliers
  • Breweries
  • Packaging producers
  • Logistic partners
  • Retour system (BNR) partners
  • Recycelers

Each company is represented by two participants: an employee with product knowledge, such as a product manager, developer or designer; and an employee with a more commercial role, who knows the market, customers, and stakeholders. You explore opportunities together and take concrete first steps to develop new products, services, and business models. The interaction between the companies and the two disciplines of a company adds a lot of value!

Under the guidance of professional trainers, with all parties involved in the chain, work on future-proof business model. In which the value chain is important. Experience shows that the ''next step'' in the field of circularity can only be made by working together.
